WELCOME TO PSHS FOOTBALLHome of the Patriots

The point is not only the rare opportunity it is to be an athlete, but also the fact that we won’t always be one. We will however always be someone’s son, father, and / or husband. We will always be part of a family, community, and circle of friends. It is important that we have the courage to do what we know is right and leave a distinct mark on all of those around us. So that if we cease to exist, we can not easily be replaced and that we leave a void that others want filled.

Parkersburg, WV: Oct. 31, 2015 – The Great American Rivalry Series is proud to announce it will feature the “Battle for the ‘Burg” between the Parkersburg South Patriots and the Parkersburg Big Reds in the Series’ twelfth weekend of games for 2015. This 48 year rivalry game will be presented by the United States Army and will be played on Friday, November 6 at the Erickson All-Sports Facility Stadium. Highlighting some of the longest running rivalries in high school football, the 2015 Great American Rivalry Series will feature 100 showdowns nationwide. All of these games come with great football, hard earned sweat and a heavy dose of hometown pride.
For the 12th year, the Great American Rivalry Series has selected an exclusive collection of top-notch rivalries across the country, covering 40 states and over 100 cities throughout the country. Wrapped in tradition, these annual battles excite entire communities, while celebrating the schools, their teams, and their fans. We Know Friday NightsTM
This year marks the 48th meeting between the Patriots and the Big Red. In 1967 Parkersburg had just one high school: Parkersburg High School. By the fall of that year PHS had become too big and could no longer house all of its students. Thus, Parkersburg South was created. For over 47 years the Little Kanawha River has separated the north side of Parkersburg from the south side, and in turn, co-workers, siblings and even spouses. The rivalry is so intense, that there has even been a documentary made about it entitled “The Civil War: Battle for the ‘Burg.” One of the greatest rivalries in the state of West Virginia will also be the final season game for both teams. On Friday night the 4-6 Patriots will host the 4-5 Big Reds in Erickson All-Sports. Despite struggles for both teams this season, this game still means everything to the community of Parkersburg and, in the end, one will come out on top as the Great American Rivalry Series Champion for 2015.
